TrialX is excited to participate and present in AMIA 2017, the 41st anniversary of the annual symposia conducted by the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA). Every year, leading informaticians such as – translational scientists, clinicians, computer scientists, nurse informaticians, clinical researchers, public health officials, and those who specialize in telemedicine and consumer health informatics – congregate at AMIA to share cutting edge biomedical informatics technologies and their applications to the real world.
This year we will be presenting our paper on America Walks – A Cross-platform Mobile ResearchKit Study of Walking Behavior Based on Passive Step Tracking, in a poster session on November 7, 2017 between 5-6:30 pm. Through this study we successfully demonstrated the possibility of creating a study app that can run on both iOS and Android phones. We will be presenting and discussing about the challenges of developing ResearchDroid – our android equivalent of ResearchKit.
We had a great and productive time at AMIA 2016 where TrialX launched its DIY Researchkit app building platform Appbakery – which received great interest and response from our booth visitors.
Appbakery empowers researchers to take an active role in quickly building their research study apps. Researchers can design, create pre-screener, consent, surveys, and deploy their entire mobile study app for clinical trials using a web interface without the need to write any code. Appbakery compiles all information and bakes an app ready to be downloaded from Apple and Google stores.
We also got a great response for Appbakery at the DPharm2017 conference in Boston this September. In the live tech demo round at DPharm2017, our CEO Dr. Sharib Khan asked one of the attendees to try out Appbakery to build an app in 5 minutes. We also demoed our patient recruit management system iConnect 2.0 at the conference.
Since the last year, TrialX has added various new features in Appbakery to help researchers have more control on the way they want to collect data via their mobile research apps.
Keynote Speakers at AMIA 2017
This year Eric Dishman @ericdishman, the Director, All of Us Research Program, National Institutes of Health will be delivering the keynote address on Sunday, November 5, 2017, 1:30 – 3:00 PM. Dishman leads efforts to build a research cohort of one million U.S. participants to advance precision medicine. He is widely recognised as a global leader in healthcare innovation with specific expertise in home and community-based technologies and services for chronic disease management. To provide a person-centric view of health care transformation, Dishman will share his experience as a cancer patient for 23 years, and how precision medicine helped him reach cure.
At the closing of AMIA2017 on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, 12:15 – 1:30 PM, Chris Wiggins, PhD, @chrishwiggins from Columbia University will deliver the closing keynote speech. Chris Wiggins is an associate professor of applied mathematics at Columbia University, the Chief Data Scientist at The New York Times, and the co-founder and co-organizer of hackNY, a nonprofit.
Panels & Poster Sessions at AMIA 2017
AMIA2017 is going to be all about big data, patient data-driven precision medicine, and innovative health technologies to improve care quality and patient safety such as e-consent. Electronic case reporting, social determinants of health and their integration with electronic health records (EHR) will also be discussed.
Naomi Elhadad from Columbia University, whom we worked with to create a research study app Phendo, will be speaking on the panel (Panel S07) talking about extending Natural Language Processing (NLP) work to other languages other than English, in order to gain medical information about patient cohorts in geographical areas where English is not an official language.
Speakers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, University of Pennsylvania Health System will share recommendations from the ACPP Task Force on Opportunities and Challenges for Development, Implementation, and Investigation of Acute Care Patient Portals (ACPP) (Panel S119).
Thought leaders from the Department of Veterans Affairs of Boston University School of Public Health/University of Massachusetts Medical School will evaluate the impacts of patient-facing eHealth technologies in a discussion on connected care in the Veterans Health Administration (Panel S97).
We look forward to learn from the great series of talks and panel discussions planned for AMIA 2017.
In addition to panel discussion AMIA 2017 is also hosting poster sessions on November 6 and 7, with more than hundered posters on display each day, on wide variety of topics related to clinical informatics and its role in healthcare development and improving patient care.
Also several pre-symposium collaborative and instructional workshops will be organised on November 4 and 5.
Networking events at AMIA 2017
Just like every year, AMIA2017 is organising a 5 miles fun run on Sunday Nov 5, 2017 6:30 am – 7:45 am. This networking event will be hosted by former Board member and Membership Committee Chair Dr. Danny Sands @DrDannySands. There will be a turnaround point at the 5K mark, for those who would like to do a shorter run. The purpose of this activity is to raise more awareness around issues related to consumer health informatics within and beyond AMIA. The run will begin promptly at 6:45 am.
This year AMIA 2017 is taking the networking meet-up outside the conference venue, to Buffalo Billiards in Dupont Circle, in the neighborhood. All attendees can attend this event on November 6, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. right after the Poster Session, to play games, meet and greet and network with colleagues and thought leaders.
We look forward to present, network, and share with a great gathering of innovative minds at AMIA 2017 !
