TrialX Presenting Pioneering Innovations in Space Health Research & Remote Data Collection at the NASA IWS 2025 Conference

We are excited to announce our participation in The NASA Human Research Program’s 2025 Investigators’ Workshop (IWS) – a premier gathering dedicated to advancing human space exploration through collaboration, innovation, and cutting-edge science. Scheduled to be held from January 28-31, 2025, in Galveston, Texas, this event brings together leaders from NASA’s Human Research Program (HRP), international space agencies, academia, and industry to address the challenges of human spaceflight.
TrialX’s Remote Data Collection Platform: Innovating at the Intersection of Space and Healthcare
TrialX is revolutionizing decentralized clinical research both on Earth and in space with its state-of-the-art remote data collection platform. Designed to empower clinical trial investigators with seamless remote data collection, this platform also plays a vital role in supporting health research for commercial space missions like Inspiration 4, MS-20, Axiom-1, Axiom-2, Axiom-3, and Polaris Dawn.
At NASA HRP IWS 2025, our teams will showcase two cutting edge technologies developed in partnership with the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) to advance space health research – the EXPAND database and the HERMES platform.
EXPAND Database and Biorepository
In 2021, TrialX was selected by Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) to build the EXPAND Database and Biorepository – a first-of-its-kind database designed to collect research, flight and relevant clinical data from future commercial spaceflight missions. Drawing on our extensive experience in building clinical trial solutions, we were able to quickly customize our existing remote data collection platform to meet the unique needs of the EXPAND program. TrialX’s platform provides clinical trial investigators, participants, and sites with a streamlined way to conduct research remotely, significantly reducing the need for in-person visits. Using mobile apps, it captures data across various categories, including electronic health record summaries, wearable sensor data, diagnostic images, biospecimen analysis results, and qualitative survey responses.
We will present this platform that serves as the foundation of the EXPAND App, delivering a secure and scalable system for data collection, management, and analysis. It integrates seamlessly with health monitoring devices and sensors, enabling real-time data capture while adhering to stringent security standards. Designed to handle large and complex datasets, including genomic data, the platform supports diverse data types across numerous research studies. Currently housing data from participants in six space missions, TrialX’s platform empowers space researchers to reuse and integrate data across studies, unlocking actionable insights and driving innovation in space health research. This capability ensures that data collected today contributes meaningfully to the future of space exploration and human health.
HERMES Platform

TrialX is also proud to be part of a groundbreaking collaboration focused on improving healthcare delivery and data management for spaceflight participants and researchers. As part of this effort, we will present our innovative platform developed under the Translational Research Institute for Space Health’s (TRISH) HERMES project. This platform accompanies spaceflight participants throughout their mission as a compact, portable “Box.” It allows offline health data collection, ensures seamless transfer of clinical and health data across different mission segments, and provides easy access to this data whenever needed. Once the mission ends, the platform syncs effortlessly with a repository on Earth, supporting continued research and advancements in space health.
