Lyme disease is a multi-systemic illness caused by the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi, a complex spirochete. If left untreated, it can become a severely debilitating disease affecting the central nervous system, joints, and multiple organs, including heart and brain. The CDC estimates over 300,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with Lyme disease each year. The Global Lyme Alliance is pleased to present Highlights from ILADS 18th Annual Scientific Conference. Our panel of leading physicians will provide insights and summary of research presented at this conference. The patient panel includes nurse practitioner Jackie Bailey of Apheresis Associates of Northern Virginia, and Jennifer Crystal, an educator at Boston who is writing a memoir on her journey with chronic tick-borne illness.
