Endometriosis is a disease where the cells of internal lining of the uterus starts to grow outside the uterus causing a maze of symptoms including pelvic pain, infertility, severe menstrual cramps and many more. It affects more than 200 M women worldwide, and affects every woman differently. Unfortunately, many women remain undiagnosed or diagnosed late due to lack of understanding of the symptoms. Despite this, there is lack of research funding into the diagnosis, cause, and effective treatments of Endometriosis, making women's options limited. March was Endometriosis Awareness Month and the 5th Worldwide Endometriosis March took place on 24th March 2018, in 60+ countries, to gain attention of health policy makers. We talked to eminent endometriosis specialist and the founder of Worldwide Endometriosis March, Dr. Camran Nezhat, all about Endometriosis and the latest advances in its diagnosis, treatment, and management.
