October 2018 marks the 10th anniversary of TrialX Inc. and Applied Informatics Inc. Our journey officially began on 12th October, 2008, after we were approached by Google mentioning that they liked our hack for trial search on their big table. We were invited to be an app partner on their – about to be released – platform Google Health.
Next, Microsoft got in touch for their platform HealthVault, and we got the opportunity to outlive another large initiative.
New York Times covered the news and since then there has been no turning back.
New tools are being developed that may help harried patients… TrialX matches patients to relevant clinical trials based on their health information. – New York Times
What began as a small firm by 2 Columbia University graduates – Dr Sharib Khan and Dr Chintan Patel – with just few members with headquarters in New York City, our team has risen up to stand tall amongst the business leads of the time and now consists of ever increasing members in engineering, design, project management, and QA roles spread across US, India and the Philippines.
Along the way our company achieved several accomplishments including bagging the NYC venture competition in 2009-2010 and participating in Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology’s (ONC’s) blockchain challenge in 2016. Participating in these competitions proved to be exceptionally productive for us.
Here is a comprehensive take of our rocking journey of last 10 years!
In these 10 years we have made some cutting edge products widely used in the life sciences industry.
iConnect
TrialX iConnect is a patient recruitment solution that helps connect researchers and patients. It helps researchers find patients interested in their clinical study and helps patients find the right trials for them. This leads to increased participation in clinical trials – something which has been the Achilles’ heel of clinical research.
Started in 2008 as a clinical trials decision engine integrated with personal health record platforms such as Google Health and Microsoft HealthVault, today iConnect is being used at major research universities and prowess the oldest website for patients to find trials. TrialX solutions currently powers clinical trials recruitment and outreach at leading academic medical centers such as University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, New York University Langone School of Medicine, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and NewYork Presbyterian Hospital.
Recently, pharma industry has also shown interest in iConnect and how it can help in accelerating their drug development processes.
CureTalks
Launched in 2012, CureTalks is a platform where we bring patients and researchers together for a discussion on cutting edge research in the medical field. On CureTalks shows, patients can freely discuss the progress of research in the area that matters to them. Listener’s can also dial in to ask questions or post their questions on our talk pages, giving them flexibility and freedom to interact with our experts.
This year we invited several researchers leading investigations on revolutionary treatments like Hepatitis C infected organ transplants, latest research in Alzheimer’s cure, CAR-T cell therapy for cancer treatment, gene therapy Luxturna and Lyme disease research progress among others.
If you are interested in being a featured expert on curetalks.com or have a topic in mind that needs discussion, reach us at priya@trialx.com or shweta@trialx.com.
Appbakery
In 2017 we launched Appbakery, a DIY research study app building platform for researchers who want to collect remote patient data for their research. Appbakery allows researchers to build apps for their research study without the need to write any code. Researchers can use the Appbakery wizard to collect data through a variety of surveys and also through wearables and sensors that the participants may be using. They can easily set the time when they want to field surveys and send timely notifications to keep participants engaged.
Later, in the same year, we were cited by one of the academic publications from University of Freiburg, Germany, in relation to our work with ResearchKit and our product Appbakery. The publication validates our approach, and mentions that our research study app building solution is the only one available “commercially”.
Applied ML
We launched our new machine learning based product Applied ML at the DIA2018. Applied ML is a cutting edge Machine Learning solution for working with clinical trials data. It has the potential to help answer several basic questions related to drug discovery, feasibility of a clinical trial and study start up. It can also help investigators assess risks that they may come across in a clinical trial. You can learn more here: https://appliedinformaticsinc.com/
Story of our successful journey so far, remains incomplete without the mention of our very supportive clients and customers. We are grateful to all who trusted us, pushed us to go ahead and improve vigorously with their demands, challenges and feedbacks, and also helped us reach out to the world.

….as well as in the warmth of our cosy office settings at New York. The event was graced by the presence of our valued friends from pharma and healthcare sector.
…and here are our guests enjoying our celeb match game – one of the fun computer vision features that recognizes people’s faces, predicts their age and gender to match them to a celebrity.
With miles to go before we sleep, we look forward to the new year 2019 and look up to the next 10 years with zeal and enthusiasm, hoping to make it more productive with our clinical trial management solutions being yet more useful to the healthcare community in many more ways.
We wish you a great New Year 2019 and Happy Holidays!
