In February 2017, along with 5 other patients and 10 individuals who have had their lives impacted by myeloma, Matt Goldman climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania Africa. They were raising funds for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), which is a leading organization in helping to find a cure. Kilimanjaro is 19,000 feet high. The journey would take 8 days and cover over 40 miles. Join us to hear Matt relive his experience.

Multiple Myeloma, Patient Advocate

Matt Goldman was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in May, 2011 at the age of 49. He is currently in partial remission and is in a maintenance phase of treatment. He had his stem cells collected in December, 2011, but has no plans to undergo a stem cell transplant. Matt’s kidneys were damaged by the myeloma, but he has used diet and nutrition to maintain functioning kidneys. After being diagnosed in 2011, a big challenge was finding information on how to eat to fight cancer and maintain a strong immune system, while not causing further damage to his kidneys. Matt is a land use planner for the Port of Long Beach. He is married and is overprotective of his dog Gracie. He has a blog that documents his journey, www.mattvsmyeloma.com and tweets @mpg61.
