Unsung But Impactful Voices of Clinical Research Heroes: Featuring Aby Dia, Clinical Research Navigator at HCLTech Clinical Research Contact Center
Before she entered the world of clinical research, Aby Dia spent more than a decade as a behavioral therapist, working closely with children and families to support emotional growth and well-being. With a background in psychology and a passion for advocacy, Aby has always centered her work on one thing: making people feel seen, heard, and supported.
So when she stepped into her role as a Clinical Research Navigator at the HCLTech Clinical Research Contact Center, it wasn’t a new direction—it was a deeper expression of the same purpose she’s carried all along.
“I was inspired by the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives through science and connection. Clinical research allows me to help bridge the gap between groundbreaking discoveries and the patients who need them most.”
Helping Patients Find Their Way
Clinical trials can be overwhelming. The unfamiliar terms. The strict eligibility criteria. The uncertainty of what comes next. That’s where Aby comes in.
As a navigator, her job is to guide patients and caregivers through it all – translating the process into something clear, manageable, and human.
And in doing that, she does something even more powerful: she helps people feel empowered.
“That moment when someone realizes they’re not alone, that there’s help and hope—that’s everything.”
Especially for individuals from historically excluded or underserved communities, that sense of connection matters deeply.
“My role as a clinical research professional (navigator) is to facilitate the participant’s understanding and engagement. Providing informed decision-making to the participant, I play a critical role in translating the complex requirements of clinical research into an accessible and manageable process for all involved.”
Of course, it’s not always simple. Behind every compassionate interaction are protocols, systems, and timelines. Balancing those while staying human takes heart and skill.
“The most challenging aspect is finding the delicate equilibrium between managing administrative complexities and fostering a human connection with participants.”
Breaking Barriers with Innovation
Aby is excited by the changes unfolding in the field. She sees potential in how technology is beginning to meet patients where they are. Tools like AI-powered trial-matching platforms and automated pre-screening systems are helping reduce barriers and make the experience more streamlined for both patients and providers.
She’s also hopeful about the growing use of decentralized and hybrid trials, which she believes could open new doors for people who may not have considered participating in research before.
“They’re helping eliminate barriers to access and creating new pathways for people who might not have considered research before.”
The Connector
If Aby’s role had a superhero alter ego?
“I’d be The Connector—someone who could instantly match patients with the right clinical trial and guide them through the process with clarity and care.”
And honestly, she kind of already is—bringing that calm, thoughtful presence to every patient she supports.
What Keeps Her Going
When asked what drives her, Aby doesn’t hesitate. She turns to the words of Louis Pasteur:
“Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world.”
For her, it’s a reminder that research isn’t about borders or titles—it’s about people. About connection. About the impact that stretches far beyond the walls of any clinic or lab.
And if she had to describe her work in just one word?

Because at the heart of every call, every question, every conversation—that’s what she offers:
Hope that someone will listen.
Hope that answers exist.
Hope that participation is possible.
Her Rhythm, Her Team, Her Energy
When she’s not navigating the complex world of clinical trials, Aby finds joy in rhythm and movement. Her go-to soundtrack? A soulful mix of Jazz and Afrobeats.
“A mix of rhythm, soul, and creativity that energizes and inspires me.”
To celebrate that spirit, we created something special—a personalized song made just for Aby, inspired by the compassion and clarity she brings to every conversation.

When it comes to sports, Aby proudly backs Paris Saint-Germain (PSG)—and is still celebrating their iconic 5–0 victory over Inter Milan in the 2025 UEFA Champions League Final. It was a night to remember: fast goals, flawless teamwork, and PSG finally claiming their long-awaited first title.
And if she could bring in one fictional character to help support patients?
“Shuri from Black Panther. Her intelligence, empathy, and innovative mindset would bring so much to patient engagement and tech-enabled care.”
A Reminder of What’s Possible
Clinical research doesn’t move forward through science alone—it moves because of people like Aby. People who lead with empathy. Who knows how to listen. Who reminds us that research is about lives, not just data.
As this field grows—with new models, tools, and ways to reach people—it’s voices like hers that keep the heart of the work intact. As Aby shared:
“We all play a part in making clinical research more human, inclusive, and accessible. Let’s keep pushing for progress—and doing it together.”
Her message is simple yet powerful: show up, connect, and keep building something better together.
