Immunotherapy is a type of cancer treatment that helps your immune system fight cancer. Several types of immunotherapy are used to treat cancer. These treatments either re-engineer the immune cells or empower them to launch an attack on the cancer directly. Immunotherapy has led to remarkable results for some cancers, eradicating difficult-to-treat tumors and, in some cases, causing complete remission of disease. We are talking to Dr. Lawrence Fong who leads the Cancer Immunotherapy Program at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center about the latest in the field in terms of research, clinical trials and treatments currently available.

Endometriosis is a debilitating condition in which tissues similar to uterine tissue are found outside of the uterus, most often in the pelvic cavity and on surrounding organs, causing chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and many other symptoms. The relationship between endometriosis and infertility has been debated for many years. About 25% to 50% of infertile women have endometriosis, and 30% to 50% of women with endometriosis are infertile. Research shows that the natural capability to produce offspring (fecundity) is lower in women with endometriosis as compared to women without. In addition, endometriosis is associated with a lower live birth rate. We are talking to Dr Suneeta Senapti of University of Pennsylvania about the impact of endometriosis on women’s fertility and how it can be managed better to reduce the burden of infertility.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. According to the American Cancer Society, there will be more than 100,000 new cases of colon cancer and more than 44,000 rectal cancer cases diagnosed in 2019. Colorectal cancer may cause over 50,000 deaths this year. However, 90% of colorectal cancers are preventable, but one out of three people who should be screened, aren't doing it! We are talking to Dr. Jimmy J. Hwang, from Levine Cancer Institute to understand colorectal cancer screening, prevention and treatment options. The discussion would touch upon identifying high risk groups who should opt for screening, available screening techniques, prevention of onset and treatment options, and guidance for efficient management of colorectal cancer.
