Urinary tract infection unlikely villain causing my fever

The mystery infection revealed itself to me.  My urine was darkening by the day, accompanied by tell-tale stinging.  They say urinary tract infections (UTIs) are unusual in men.  Good to know I’m not just another guy!

LevaquinMy fever broke 24 hours after I started taking Levaquin.  Undeniable symptoms appeared the same day.  We looked up antibiotics commonly used to fight UTIs, and Levaquin was near the top of the list.

My root beer colored urine started lightening almost immediately.  It’s still a bit dark today, but my fever has been normal for three days.  Surprisingly, I still felt under-the-weather on Thursday.  Back to normal Friday, whatever normal is.  Back on Cytoxan, Kyprolis and dex on Monday.

The Levaquin took a while to kick-in.  May have had something to do with the late start, or possibly the fact I’ve used it a half dozen times before?  I may suggest switching to another wide spectrum antibiotic next time.

And there will be a next time, right?  It won’t get any easier with one or more transplants in my future.

But I’ve had an epiphany.  I like the sound of “in my future.”  This has been a game changing week for me, full of amazing coincidences, reaffirming phone calls–and signs.  Some “signs” are too improbably to ignore.

I’ll post about it this a few days.

Feel good and keep smiling!  Pat
