Renal Cancer Clinical Trials

Renal Cancer is the cancer of kidney, which normally affects the lining of the tubules found inside kidney. It is also known as Hypernephroma. The tubules or small tubes are responsible for filtering the blood by removing waste materials from the human body.

RCC or Renal Cell Carcinoma is most common type of kidney cancer noticed in adults. The risk of Renal Cancer increases for men in the age group 50-70. The exact of behind Renal Cancer is unknown. Prevalence of Renal Cancer is noticed for people with high blood pressure, dialysis treatment and smoking.

The symptoms of Renal Cancer are abdominal pain, pain in back, blood in urine, swelling, abrupt weight loss etc. It is among the deadliest group of cancer, which easily spreads to affect the adjacent organs and lungs.

Several diagnostic tests are required to perform to diagnose Renal Cancer. Abdominal CT scan, Blood chemistry, liver function test, Intravenous pyelogram, urinalysis etc are the most common diagnostic tests to determine Renal Cancer. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy – none of these treatment methods are effective to treat Renal Cancer. Only surgery can help to remove whole or part of affected kidney, in case the cancer has not spread to other parts of the body.

Scientists are conducting various studies and research works in this field to find out most effective treatment for Renal Cancer. Clinical trials are the important steps in these developments. There are currently 34 different interventions being investigated in Renal Cancer clinical trials. These clinical trials are being conducted in 32 cities and are being performed by 27 different clinical trial investigators (doctors who conduct and supervise the clinical study). There are 22 Renal Cancer trials currently active in the United States.
