What is Olopatadine (Olopatadine Hydrochloride and Patanol)?
It is a relatively selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist and inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells. It shares many of the pharmacologic effects of mast cell stabilisers. Olopatadine hydrochloride is an antihistamine (as well as anticholinergic) and mast cell stabilizer, sold as a prescription eye drop (0.2% solution, Pataday (or Patanol S in some countries), manufactured by Alcon). A particular antihistamine used in eye drops to treat allergic conjunctivitis. Fluorometholone ophthalmic (for the eyes) is used to treat eye swelling caused by infections, injury, surgery, or other conditions.

Headache, asthenia, cold syndrome, pharyngitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, dysgeusia, ocular burning or stinging, dry eye, foreign body sensation, hyperaemia, keratitis, lid oedema, ocular pruritus, blurred vision.
Dosage and Prescribing Information for Olopatadine (Olopatadine Hydrochloride and Patanol)
One drop in each eye twice a day.
Precautions while prescribing Olopatadine (Olopatadine Hydrochloride and Patanol)
- Pregnancy, lactation.
- Remove contact lenses prior to admin.
- Reinsert soft contact lenses 10 min after admin.
