What is Diosmin (DIAO)?

Diosmin is a type of vasoprotectant. Diosmin belongs to category of bioflavonoids drugs.

It is a vascular protector and it strengthens venous tone. Acts on the venous return circulatory system. it reduces venous extensibility & venous stasis in the micro circulation, it normalizes capillary permeability and reinforces capillary resistance. Diosmin is a semisynthetic phlebotropic drug, a member of the flavonoid family.Diosmin is a semi synthetic phlebotropic drug, a member of the flavonoid family. It is an oral psychotropic drug used in the treatment of venous disease, i.e., chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and hemorrhoidal disease (HD), in acute or chronic hemorrhoids, in place of rubber-band ligation, in combination with fiber supplement, or as an adjuvant therapy to hemorrhoidectomy, in order to reduce secondary bleeding. This drug is commonly sold as Brand Name DIAO.

Indication/Contraindication for use of Diosmin (DIAO)

  • IUCD induced bleeding and other capillary fragility.
  • First trimester of pregnancy.
  • Treatment of chronic organic and functional Venous insufficiency of the lower limbs with the following symptoms, heavy legs, pain, nocturnal cramps.
  • Haernorrhoids and acute haemorrhage’s attacks.
  • DUB
