What is Bicalutamide (Casodex and Cosudex)?
Bicalutamide is an oral non-steroidal anti-androgen used in the treatment of prostate cancer and hirsutism. Bicalutamide, also known by the brand name Casodex, is an oral medication that is used in the treatment of prostate cancer. It belongs to a group of drugs called non-steroidal antiandrogens, and it works by blocking male hormones. It’s always taken along with another drug, and the two work together to stop the spread and growth of cancer cells. Bicalutamide should only be taken under the supervision of a doctor and all dosage instructions should be followed carefully.
Indication/Contraindication for use of Bicalutamide (Casodex and Cosudex)
- Hypersensitivity to drug or any component of the product.
- Advanced carcinoma of prostate in combination therapy with a luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) analon.
Side Effects of Bicalutamide (Casodex and Cosudex)
Patients when treated with Bicalutamide in combination with LHRH analog may have hot flashes, diarrhoea, oedema, neoplasm, fever, neck pain, chills, sepsis.

50mg once daily.
Precautions while prescribing Bicalutamide (Casodex and Cosudex)
Hepatic impairment transaminases increase over 2 times the upper limit of normal, discontinue the treatment with this drug.
