It’s pretty ironic that before I left for training camp this summer my sister gave me the book, The Adversity Advantage. She said it’s all about suffering and embracing life’s obstacles, you will love it she said. So, as I departed for Leysin back in May I began reading it. Little did I know that [...]

Hi I am a 30 something Professional Triathlete, Coach, Aspiring Writer, and hopefully a motivator...I am very blessed with being able to train full time as a triathlete. I focus on longer distance races such as the Ironman and so with it comes lots of travel to great places around the planet where I race and train with my fellow teammates on Team TBB.
I get asked all the time...how does one become a professional triathlete?? Well the honest truth is having a bit of talent, getting a bit of financial assistance on the way up, having something inside you that motivates you to train real hard, and not being a afraid of a ton of hard work...
After having a fairly successful track and cross country career at The University of Tennessee I dabbled a bit with triathlon but after settling down and getting married decided the time commitment required to be successful in such a sport was too great to try and support a future family...
Fast forward 2 years and I am now struggling with the affects of a failed marriage and rather than drink myself into an oblivion, which I was pretty close to doing I might add, I decided to get back on the bike as a means of therapy. Soon after with a bit of success I decided to throw caution in the wind and chase a little dream of mine, as I had decided I had already done, 'what you're supposed to do in life' and that didn't work out so why not try something different. And...there was time when I swore I would never do an Ironman because I thought you must be crazy to do such an event...I decided I was pretty crazy at that moment!!!
Along the way I was put in touch with great coach in the world, Mr. Brett Sutton, he invited me to attend a training camp he was putting on in the Philippines, as a bit of a try out for his developmental team, Team TBB. I took another leap and booked a flight the next day. This will be my third year training under Brett and racing as a member of the squad and we are hoping it will be a break through year for me as I continue to pursue the dream of becoming an Ironman Champion...
Thank you for reading my blog, I think you will enjoy my journey and hopefully I can inspire a few people along the way to get up and do something with their dreams as this ain't know dress rehearsal!!! My Cure Talks:
Enduring Racing – Ironman France: No Regrets
My home stay host, Pierre, asked me tonight if I will return to Nice for a 4th time next year?? I responded, with, “Yes! I must come back to Nice, even though it puts me through so much pain, I will figure this race out!” He said I was crazy Thank you to Pierre and [...]
Ironman St. George: Going The Distance
Before the gun went off on Saturday morning, never in my wildest dreams did I think the outcome of the day would be turn out as it did…Ironman hurts and this one was no exception to the rule. This time around, the swim hurt, the bike hurt, and then to come into the bike to [...]
Perspective – Ironman triathalon training in Thailand
It sometimes blows my mind how quickly time fly’s and the older I get the faster and faster the ride seems to go!! This past month flew by like a night’s sleep that was way too short! I find myself on an air plane once again feeling like I just woke up from that short [...]

America, Lets Get On Our Bikes III

When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking. – Sherlock Holmes Let’s think about something else, not only are there [...]

When I see an adult on a bicycle, I do not despair for the future of the human race. – H.G. Wells So… for the past 8 weeks I have been surviving in American Society, living in a suburb of Southern California without a car…For some, the thought of not having a vehicle might raise [...]
