Myeloma: To Transplant or Not w/ Dr. Paul Richardson of Dana Farber Cancer Institute
Dr. Paul Richardson of Harvard’s Dana Farber Cancer Institute is among the top 5 myeloma experts in the world and we are excited to have him talk on Stem Cell Transplants for Myeloma with cure panelists on The Cure Panel Talk Show on 24 October @ 6pm ET.
Our patient expert myeloma panelist team of Gary Petersen, Pat Killingsworth, Jack Aiello, and Nick Van Dyk will be on the panel discussing the topic:
Myeloma : To Transplant or Not, That is the Question!
New drugs being approved by FDA for treating myeloma and comparable response rates through drug therapies rivaling those of stem cell transplants (SCT) has ignited a disagreement among myeloma experts with regard to use of stem cell transplants early in the course of treatment. At the 17th International Congress of Hematologic Malignancies, the debate was taken over by experts from the far ends of the spectrum. While Dr. Berenson emphasized the need/opportunity for patients to try out the new drug therapies prior to opting for SCTs thereby not jeopardizing their long-term positive outcomes (read overall survival, quality of life), Dr. Munshi of Dana Farber Cancer Institute reiterated the advantages of opting for an up-front SCT with supporting evidence from six major trials.
