Mel Stottlemyre, MOR202 and a special anniversary

Recently I ran a series of posts about baseball great Don Baylor.  He is one of the most famous MLB multiple myeloma survivors I know; but certainly not the only one.  Former New York Yankee player, Mel Stottlemyre, is also a survivor.  Here’s a link to a New York Daily News human interest story about Mr. Stottlemyre following an appearance at an exhibition game there recently:

Everyone isn’t a baseball fan and I have a lot of multiple myeloma related odds ‘n ends to share with you today, so let’s move on.

A couple of days ago I made a big deal out of Celgene’s major investment in MorphoSys and their promising new immunotherapy drug, MOR202.  Well I wasn’t the only one!  Here is a sampling of links to science and business publications that ran stories about the new partnership:

And that’s only a few!  Big news that hopefully will translate into real results for us!

I wanted to end with a good news story.  Long time reader, Joyce Schultz, identified a need and started a myeloma support group in southwest Minnesota this year.  In response to my stem cell transplant anniversary post she emailed me this:

JoyceI am celebrating a 5 year survivorship anniversary.   I am also celebrating a 4 year SCT anniversary, though it only worked for 5 1/2 months.  I was Stage III when I was diagnosed, but am doing extremely well now, feel good most of the time.  I am a perfect example that there are exceptions to the rules and all the numbers.  Think positive, you aggressive myeloma patients and all myeloma patients.

Pat your information, has been extremely helpful in my journey.  I wish the very best to you  and will keep all in my prayers.

Thanks for sharing, Joyce!  Glad you are doing so well.  Keep us the great work!

Feel good and keep smiling!  Pat
