Old myeloma friends–and ways to make new ones!

Multiple myeloma survivor, Joyce Schultz, contacted me on facebook to let me know that she is starting a new support group.  The group will meet in Fairmont, Minnesota, which is located in the southern part of the state.  AWESOME! I understand every patient and/or caregiver can’t get to a support group.  There may not be one in the area, or they may not feel up to attending. But those patients and caregivers that can attend most always find they help.  The information gleaned is often invaluable.   The support found among others that share similar circumstance comforting.  But what about the friendships that form among those of us that now have so much in common? Online support is awesome!  But I do love those in-person hugs! So if you live in north central Iowa–or south central Minnesota–contact Joyce and maybe you can be a charter member! CLICK HERE to see a flyer with details. And speaking of dear friends that I have met at support groups, I wrote a heartfelt post for the IMF this week about that:

Support Group Leaders Wear Their Big Hearts and Hometown Pride on Their Sleeves!

In the post, I thank group leaders, Karl and Lorraine Vollstedt, Howard and Teresa Martinson, and Harold and Sue VanDuyn for their hard work and hospitality during my trips to speak to their groups recently. What special people!  And what good friends!  Are you sure you can’t find a way to get to a myeloma support group near you?  Or if you can’t, maybe (with my help?) you can start one! Feel good and keep smiling!  Pat
