Great Lung Runner Kelcey Harrison In Conversation With CureTalk

Kelcey Harrison and The Great Lung Run

A single person can make a change…Kelcey is half way through to her destinatio…putting Lung Cancer on the forefront through Great Lung Run…

Kelcey Harrison is not an unknown name and we have been following her on her Great Lung Run from New York City to San Francisco. For those of you who have joined us late, Kelcey is running from New York City to San Francisco to raise money and awareness for lung cancer research through Jill’s Legacy and the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. She is from San Francisco, working at New York County’s District Attorney’s office.

Kelcey, a 24 year old, Harvard graduate left her job to set out on her Great Lung Run – a 3,500-mile run. Kelcey is expected to reach downtown San Francisco by November 2012. It might sound crazy, but believe me when you do talk to Kelcey, you realize that she has her head firmly on her shoulders and knows exactly what she aims to do.

Kelcey is halfway through to her destination. I caught up with Kelcey in Oklahoma and chatted with her about her inspiration to run among other things.

Kelcey says that Jill Costello, her friend, is her true inspiration. In addition, she feels that her family’s support has been supreme in helping and inspiring her to take the plunge and run. She has had lovely experiences with people supporting her on her runs, sponsoring her stays and even running with her. Kelcey claims that she feels very good with the support that she has received through Facebook, twitter, emails, and people coming forward from everywhere.

I spoke to Kelcey on Friday afternoon, when she was done with her running for the day, and was expecting to find her tired, but she was anything but that. Kelcey believes that this is her job. She is doing it for lung cancer, for her supporters, for her friend, Jill, and her family. So, everyday, she gets up and ‘There is work to do’.

Maybe this attitude helps her overcome the physical discomforts that may be associated with running 30 miles every day.

Kelcey had a message for the people out there and it was this,

An Individual can make a difference!

And that is exactly what she is doing. She is trying to bring lung cancer out in the forefront of cancer research so that it receives the attention and finance that it deserves. Kelcey states that an individual has the power to bring about a change and all he has to do to see the change happening is to harness the power within.

Great going Kelcey, all the best!

We will be following Kelcey, and keep visiting for updates.
