Rural Medical Dispensaries to be launched in Goa

According to an article published in Times of India, Goa is going to be the first state in India to launch a Diabetes Registry for the population which is affected by diabetes, in order to help state health services to better monitor the disease, said Vishwajit Rane, the state health minister. The state will also build 10 Rural Medical Dispensaries (RMD’s) and provide free distribution of Pentavalent Immunization Vaccine. The pentavalent vaccine is a 5 in 1 vaccine that fights against hepatitis B, DPT, pneumonia, and other diseases, in children.

Near about 7% to 8% of population in Goa is suffering from Diabetes and one insulin injector costs about 200 rupees in the market.

Announcements by Rane

  • Building of 10 rural medical dispensaries (RMD) in far- flung areas of Goa, for the benefit of rural people.
  • The inauguration of first such RMD will be done shortly at Keri village, followed by another one at Thane, in Sattari taluka.
  • Free insulin will be distributed by health services all over Goa which costs Rs. 1200 in the market.
  • Diabetes Registry will be launched soon which has details of every diabetes patient in Goa.
  • There will be a permanent doctor, a pharmacist and a laboratory technician at the RMD’s, which are to be built by “Goa state infrastructure development corporation” (GSIDC).
  • Weekly visits will be made by other specialists like gynaecologists, radiologists and dentists to these RMD’s.
  • Each RMD will be equipped with semi auto analyzer for conducting blood tests, ultra sound machine, dentist’s chair and other such equipments.
  • Two of the RMD’s will be located in the Taluka of Sattari (Taluka where Rane’s constituency of Valpoi is situated).

Summary

Rane is co- ordinating with the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to launch the Diabetes registry. Diabetes registry has a record of every diabetes patient in Goa and a unique identification number which is allotted to each patient. This will help health services to monitor the condition of every patient.
