CPR Conducted by Untrained Bystanders Versus Trained Professionals – Research Findings

I recently saw this snippet published in a local NYC daily about a research study that compared outcomes of cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) performed by bystanders as  to that performed by trained personnel

Results: During a three-year period, researcher analyzed a nationwide emergency medical services database to compare outcomes between patients with bystanders witnessed, out-of -hospital cardiac arrest who received convential CPR (19,328 patients and those who received chest comparison only CPR (27,707 patients).

Conclusion of the study : Guidelines continue  to recommend convential CPR by trained healthcare providers.
