List of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Clinical Trials, New Treatments
Hodgkin Lymphoma is the cancer of immune system affecting lymphocytes or white blood cells in the human body. The disease is named after Thomas Hodgkin, who was the first to notice this lymphatic abnormality in the year 1832. Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is identified by marking the presence of Reed-Sternberg type cell. Two main types of Hodgkin Lymphoma have been noticed in human, which are classical Hodgkin Lymphoma and nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin Lymphoma.
The most prominent symptom of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is the swollen lymph nodes, spleen and other tissues related to the body immune system. Normally there is no pain associated with the enlargement. However, it might include fever, fatigue, drastic loss of body weight, sweating at night etc.
The diagnostic procedure for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is almost similar as it is for any other cancer. Patient has to go through diagnostic tests like biopsy, CT scan, PET scan, MRI etc. Depending on the stage of cancer, treatment decision is considered. Usually three types of treatment procedures are used, which are chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for pregnant women might require different treatment procedures like close monitoring and steroid therapy.
New treatments are being tested by medical scientists to treat Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Clinical trials for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma are an important step in the development of new treatments. There are approximately 50 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma trials currently active in the United States. Of these 7 clinical trials are in Phase I, 21 are in Phase II and 2 are in Phase III (read more about what the different phases of a clinical trial mean and how they differ). These clinical trials are being performed and managed in 62 cities by 75 different clinical trial investigators. Listed below are some of these interventions, new treatments under investigation, research investigators and clinical trials
