Multiple sclerosis (also known as MS, disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata) is an autoimmune disease that leads to inflammation of neurons in the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). Symptoms vary, because the location and severity of each attack can be different. There is still no cure for Multiple Sclerosis, but treatments exist to reduce the symptoms. Additionally, clinical trials for multiple sclerosis are an important step in the development of new treatments
Approximately, 170 clinical trials are currently active in the United State for multiple sclerosis. Of these clinical trials, 14 trials are in Phase 1, 34 are in Phase II and 28 are in Phase 3. Some 187 different interventions are being tested in multiple sclerosis clinical trials. Multiple Sclerosis clinical trials are being performed and managed in 351 sites by 269 different clinical trial investigators.
